Organic & Homeopathic Remedies & Preventatives An herb known to prevent migraines is feverfew, but it has to be taken everyday as prevention. Peppermint oil rubbed on the temples can help with the head pain. Magnesium for muscle relaxation, plus feverfew which reduces nerve excitability. White Willow Bark is natures equivalent to aspirin. Also recommended is Evening Primrose oil an essential fatty acid that improves circulation, and helps inflammation relieving pain. MSM (organic sulfur) also relieves inflammation, available in lotion or pills. If headaches occur monthly, women may need a phyto-estrogen like Black Cohosh, or a progesterone rubbed on cream from wild yams to normalize hormones. |

CURRENT AVAILABLE TREATMENT FOR MIGRAINES |

I have tried some of these remedies. Ferverfew had a mild effect, but small migraines seemed more frequent. The best things I have found to reduce severity & frequency in the organic category is CoQ10, and beefing up on the B vitamins. Excedrin Migraine works on the garden variety migraine, but has only limited effect on the long duration migraine that includes most of the symptoms. Aspirin is more or less useless for a migraine, but it gives you a lovely, loud ringing in your ears. Ice packs where it hurts seems to help me a lot, temporarily. Some people find relief in heat. * I am not a doctor, and am not prescribing. Check with your doctor before trying any of these. |
